'Matsuri in Sydney' was held at Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour on Saturday 15 December.

On 4 December, the Emperor's Birthday Reception was held at the Consul-General's official residence.

Utagawa Hiroshige – 53 Stations of the Tokaido Exhibition
Consul-General Kohara attended the opening ceremony of the Japan Foundation ukiyo-e exhibition “Utagawa Hiroshige: 53 Stations of the Tokaido” to commemorate the 30th Anniversary between Taito City and Manly.

Australia-Japan Society Awards for University Students
On July 10, the Consul-General attended the AJS awards ceremony for university students and also gave a lecture entitled “The Japan-Australia Partnership in the Asia-Pacific Region”.

“Japan: Kingdom of Characters” Exhibition in Darwin
On 14 June, Consul-General Kohara, along with Northern Territory Chief Minister Henderson, attended the opening of the Japan Foundation’s “Japan: Kingdom of Characters” exhibition at the Northern Territory Library. It is the first Japan Foundation event to be held in Darwin.

Opening of the Ken Done Art Exhibition
The Consul-General attended the opening of the exhibition depicting the Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour by the well known Australian artist Ken Done at Mosman Art Gallery on 18 May.

Ikenobō 550th Year Anniversary
The Consul-General attended the ceremony for the 550th Year Anniversary of the Ikenobō, the oldest school of Ikebana (flower arranging) held on 12 April.

29th Essay Contest Awards Ceremony

On 19 March the Awards Ceremony for the 29th Australia-Japan Relations Essay Contest for secondary school students was held at the Consul-General’s residence.

3.11 Commemorative Reception

On 16 March, a commemorative reception was held at the Consul-General’s residence to mark one year since the Great East Japan Earthquake. The reception was attended by around 110 people. Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO Governor of New South Wales was the guest of honour and addressed the reception. Also attending were members of the Fire and Rescue NSW who were among the earliest to arrive in Japan after the disaster to help with the immediate rescue efforts.

Japanese saké and food promotion

A reception to promote Japanese saké and food was held in Sydney on 15 February. Around 240 people attended. Among the attendees was NSW Deputy Premier Stoner. Saké producers who came especially from Japan gave explanations about Japanese saké.

On 14 February, participants on the JENESYS Future Business Counterparts from Australia (FBC.AU) were invited to the Consul-General’s residence for a pre-orientation and farewell reception.
