Visa Required Document Details

Others - General Visas (Students, Trainees, Cultural Activities & Dependents)

1. Students

Activities authorised to engage in: Receiving education at college or equivalent educational institutions; specialised courses of study at advanced vocational schools (Senshugakkou), educational institutions designated for preparing persons who have completed 12 years of education at schools in foreign countries to enter college (Koto Senmongakko); high schools; high school courses of schools for the blind or of handicapped children's schools, higher or general courses of advanced vocational schools (Senshugakko); junior high school or elementary school or vocational schools (Kakushugakko) (excluding the educational institutions described under the College Students); or other educational institutions which are equivalent to vocational schools in facilities and curriculum.

Period of stay: 6 months, 1 year, 1 year 3 months, 2 years, or 2 years 3 months
An applicant must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.

2. Trainees

Activities authorised to engage in: The learning and acquisition of skills or knowledge at public or private organisations in Japan (excluding the activities described under College Student and Pre-college Student visas).

Period of stay: 3 months, 6 months or 1 year
An applicant must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.

3. Cultural Activities

Activities authorised to engage in: Academic or artistic activities that provide no income; activities for the purpose of pursuing specific studies on Japanese culture or arts; or activities for the purpose of learning and acquiring skills in Japanese culture or arts under the guidance of experts (for example, ikebana, tea ceremony, judo, etc.).

Period of stay: 3 months, 6 months or 1 year
An applicant must either obtain a Certificate of Eligibility or read the next section (Cultural Activities Visa) for an alternative procedure.

Fellowship / Cultural Activities Visa

People who have been invited by The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), The Japan Foundation or other Japanese administrative institutions to engage in unpaid scientific research activities, Japanese language education or intellectual exchanges may require visas. (In some cases it is not necessary to obtain a visa.)

These applicants may, in the place of a Certificate of Eligibility, present the following documents to apply for a visa.

Note: If an applicant is unsure as to what category he/she falls under, the applicant should contact the visa section directly to save time and avoid confusion.



Application without Certificate of Eligibility for Fellowship/Cultural Activities Visa

REQUIREMENTS

1. A valid passport with at least 2 spread blank visa pages
2. A valid Australian visa (Please access the VEVO site to check and print out your visa information.)
3. One completedvisa application form (Sample)
*Please fill in all the lines without leaving any blank. If a question is not applicable, please put “N/A” or “No”.
4. One passport sized photo (4.5cm x 3.5cm or 2in. x 2in. (taken within 6 months))
5. Flight booking confirmations of all the destination flights (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline)
* If you will not fly from one airport to another airport, please provide a typed explanation letter.
* We do not require the purchase of tickets or payment of any booking fee, but we do require a confirmed reservation. We are not responsible for tickets which may become unusable due to the delay or denial of a visa.
6. Documents certifying the activity and its duration, how the applicant is involved, and the outline of the organisation where he or she intends to engage in the activity concerned.
7. Documents certifying that the applicant can defray all expenses incurred, or there is a sponsorship agreement during the stay in Japan.
8. Resume showing the applicant's academic career, achievements, etc
9. Employment letter or Student ID

4. Dependents

Activities authorised to engage in: Daily activities on the part of the spouse or unmarried minor child of those who stay in Japan with a status of residence mentioned in Employment or Working visa or with a Cultural Activities or Student status of residence.

Period of stay: 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 1 year 3 months, 2 years, 2 years 3 months, 3 years, 3 years 3 months, 4 years, 4 years 3 months or 5 years
An applicant must either obtain a Certificate of Eligibility or read the next section (Dependent Visa) for an alternative procedure.

Application without Certificate of Eligibility for Dependent Visa

An applicant requires that the sponsor of the family is still in Australia and willing to go to Japan together with their dependents.

REQUIREMENTS

A valid passport with at least 2 spread blank visa pages

3. One completedvisa application form (Sample)
* Please fill in all the lines without leaving any blank. If a question is not applicable, please put “N/A” or “No”.

6. Passport of the sponsor of the family containing a valid working visa for Japan
7. Marriage and/or Birth certificate to prove their relationships with the sponsor of the family.
8. Documents certifying the financial stability of the sponsor of the family

(A) If the sponsor is/will be employed in Japan:
① Document showing the occupation of the sponsor such as
Employment verification letter / Employment certificate
Copy of contract
Business permit
② Document showing the annual Income and amount of tax paid such as
Certificate of tax payment
Withholding record
Copy of final tax return form

(B) If the sponsor is not employed:
Proof document of the sponsor’s financial capability to cover the living expenses of the applicant such as
Bank statements of the applicant/sponsor for savings/investment for the last 3 months with a current balance
Documents certifying the amount of grants/scholarships/stipends
